We had the pleasure of attending The Space’s event featuring Producer, Writer and Director William Nicholson and Actor Robert Lindsay.
MD Kelly Mikulla and Production Coordinator Debi Carter joined a bar full of entertainment industry professionals and arts enthusiasts for an evening with the two interviewees.
Taking place at Brighton’s Latest Music Bar, Wayne Imms – a brilliant host – led an intimate and inspiring interview with the pair, making for a fantastic evening.
“Very funny, interesting, and inspiring; what amazing people!” – Debi Carter, Production Coordinator
Robert provided us with insight, honesty and humour throughout his interview and while answering questions from the audience. We chuckled when he shared a memory of his time at RADA – initially attending with a strong Derbyshire accent to return home to a traditional mining town with a cockney accent; an “interesting experience”, he said.
We thoroughly enjoyed Wayne’s conversation with William, who directed the 2019 film Hope Gap, featuring Annette Bening and Bill Nighy. We supported the Sussex production, working across all the locations; Debi introduced a showing of the film at Chichester’s 2022 Film Festival in August.
Filmed in July 2018, Hope Gap centres on William writing about himself growing up in Seaford – Josh O’Connor portrayed him in the film with Bill Nighy and Annette Bening playing his parents. Principal photography took place on Seaford’s seafront, Hope Gap and Seaford train station with driving scenes around the town. The house used throughout the film was located near the promenade – production captured some great drone shots of the area.
William shared that although the film didn’t do as well as he hoped the actors were fantastic and great to work with. He also said the crew worked well together and he loved every minute of it!
It was also insightful listening to William speak of his recent work writing for Ron Howard’s film Thirteen Lives, depicting the iconic underground caves rescue operation in Thailand, and hearing more from Robert as he reflected on his 45-year career to date.
“A thoroughly enjoyable evening all round – Wayne’s interviewing style and venue choice made for an intimate, laid back and humble affair, where it really felt William and Robert could be put completely at ease to share their knowledge and experience.” – Kelly Mikulla, MD
